For this screening, Idan Barazani (@meltdowndotcom) will be showing their short “Emotion Inn” (2020), which showcases Xander Zhou’s (@xanderzhou) futuristic Autumn/Winter 2020 collection in a preternatural new film. Working with Taka Arakawa (@takaresaka) on the creative direction, Barazani converges pan-Asian culture onto surrealist structures to create a film that pushes against our visual comfort zone. Together, they fracture reality with visions of moving body parts, a radioactive sauna, and dualistic guests who are two halves of the same disturbing whole.

Alongside Idan’s film, we will be screening the ICONIC “Battle Royale” (2000) by Kinji Fukasakuto. Based on a novel, then later a graphic novel, the film follows a group of school students that are forced to fight to the death by the Japanese totalitarian government. The film drew in much controversy, and was banned or excluded from distribution in several countries.
